This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Not Bad At All! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

WE bought it just to tow our camper! We added a tow bar to tow our camper and have made seven trips so far. Even with the 6cyl 3.7, it pulls and rides like a charm! Just recently we have had to have the drivers door seal replaced due to it protruding out a little far when you enter the drivers seat. The back seat leg room is tight for an adult, but is good for kids.

Great car. Love everything about it except the fuel mileage. Havent been able to take any long trips as yet due to illness in the family. I am anxious to see if the valve cutout system actually makes a difference on steady speeds over a long period of time. Handles like a dream, low center of gravity makes it handle on curves wonderfully. Acceleration is superb.

Great new ride -- clearly major German influence in build quality and state of the art features.

  • Not Bad... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overall, its not a bad vehicle. This is my third Jeep, and I have no major complaints. Reliability has been pretty good - Ive had a few minor warranty repairs, but thats it. Engine runs and pulls like a champ, and I get lots of compliments on the styling. Build quality could be a little better, but its not awful either. Ill be honest - I didnt spend Toyota money and I dont expect Toyota quality. Gas mileage is 15 city / 20 highway, but that drops pretty quick if I drive it hard.

  • My JGC Laredo - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Im a single mom in the military and I LOVE my Jeep! My last vehicle was a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and my 2005 definitely handles much more like a car vs my 1995. My mom drives a Cadillac and even she loves to drive my Jeep. With the simple steering I have been able to avoid several near misses without pulling my arm out. My mom likes it because its effortless to try and steer. About the only things I can say against it is the gas mileage (which is expected out of an SUV), the exterior style and when the back seats fold down, they dont fold down flat. I love all the "extras" that come standard.

  • Style and grunt - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

MY JGC Limited is almost a year old and only has 2000 miles on it. I hope the gas mileage improves as engine breaks in. Very nice SUV, almost too nice to consider taking off road. Very pleased with this, my second Jeep vehicle. I had a 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade lost in a collision.

  • Could be better - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hoping 2005 was just an off year. Mine has been back to the dealer 4 or 5 times for different items like the tire pressure monitor and the air bag light continuing to have problems. Then the 5 cent knob on the GPS guide broke and they had to order a new radio (the whole unit), not to mention the brake rotors warping and getting replaced under warranty. Other than that its fine.

  • Transmission Problems? - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

For those who have a hard shift in your transmission when cold or muggy OR the transmission has a hard time engaging. I finally found the problem after 8 months of taking notes and driving to the dealership. Talk with the transmission technician and ask to run a diagnostic on the transmission pump and valves. The transmission bleeds pressure overnight and the pump isnt pushing the fluid into the transmission fast enough, also the valves are misfiring and opening valves to build pressure instead of closing them. Hope this helps.

  • 5.7 Hemi is a must! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I am coming of an MDX and there is no comparison. The Grand Cherokee Hemi is a significantly better ride and and a much more powerful SUV in every way. My GC is loaded and I love every feature, especially the navigation, the Sirius radio and the Bluetooth. The only negative is that I expected bad gas mileage but it is worse than I thought. Interesting is that is is acceptable on the highway but terrible around town.
